Around The Classrooms

Science Week

Last week, Stage 3 conducted an experiment for Science Week: 'Decoding the Universe'.

They were presented with the question "can the sun cook a pizza?"

Each group built a solar pizza oven using pizza boxes, aluminium foil, paper and gladwrap. The pizzas were made using flat bread, pizza sauce and cheese and the students placed them inside their ovens and set them out in the sun.

Throughout the day, they carefully rotated their ovens to follow the sunlight.

They observed that the smoother the foil was, the more effectively it reflected heat onto the gladwrap, trapping warmth inside the oven and melting the cheese.

 What a delicious experiment!!
