Year 5/6 - Debates

Highvale Secondary College Experience
Last week, our Year 5 and 6 students had an exciting opportunity to visit Highvale Secondary College (HSC), where they were able to immerse themselves in a secondary school environment and make use of the college’s impressive facilities.
Debates
Prior to this visit, classes engaged in completing classroom debates. Each class spent time researching, preparing arguments, and presenting their ideas on a range of topics. Students demonstrated excellent teamwork, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.
From each class, a winning team was selected to represent their peers. One standout team then had the unique opportunity to participate in a special debate held at Highvale Secondary College.
The Grand Debate at HSC
At HSC, the selected team competed against a different class team in a lively and challenging debate. The students rose to the occasion, confidently presenting arguments, responding to opposing viewpoints, and showcasing the skills they had developed throughout the week.
It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm, resilience, and ability to think on their feet in a new and authentic setting.
Looking Ahead
This experience has been invaluable in building both academic skills and confidence. We are incredibly proud of all students for their efforts during the debates and for representing our school so positively at Highvale Secondary College.
We thank the staff at HSC for welcoming our students and providing such a memorable learning opportunity.
