Assistant Principal Report

Dear Highvale families,
It is hard to believe we have reached the end of Term 2 and are now officially halfway through the school year. This term has been filled with rich learning, exciting events, and many moments worth celebrating. We encourage all families to read through every page of this newsletter to catch up on the wonderful things happening across our school.
As we look ahead, Term 3 will continue to be a thriving and engaging time for students. There are many events, learning opportunities and community activities planned, and we want to ensure everyone stays informed. Please remember to check Compass regularly so you don’t miss any updates.
Health Update – Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease
Yesterday, a Compass feed was sent to all families notifying the community that there have been confirmed cases of Hand, Foot & Mouth disease within our school.
Hand, Foot & Mouth is generally a mild viral illness, but it is important for families to be aware of the symptoms and know what to look out for. Further information about the virus, including common symptoms and how it spreads, can be found by clicking the link below.
https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/hand-foot-and-mouth-disease
We encourage families to seek medical advice regarding their child’s health if you notice symptoms or have any concerns.
Semester 1 Reports Now Available on Compass
Student reports are now live and available for families to read via Compass. At this stage, only 82% of reports have been opened, so we encourage all families to take a moment to log in and review their child’s progress.
Reading your child’s academic report is important because it helps you:
- Understand their learning growth — Reports show how your child is progressing across the curriculum and where they are developing new skills.
- Identify areas for support — Reports highlight learning behaviours, strengths and next steps, helping families and teachers work together.
Celebrate achievements — Reports provide an opportunity to recognise effort, improvement and success.
We encourage all families to log in to Compass as soon as possible to read their child’s report and stay informed about their learning journey.
Volunteering at HPS
Volunteers play a vital role in the success of many of our school programs, events and initiatives. Their time, energy and willingness to help make a meaningful difference to the experiences we can offer our students.
There are many different ways to get involved, whether it’s supporting classroom activities, helping at events, assisting with programs or lending a hand behind the scenes. Every contribution, big or small, strengthens our school community.
If you are interested in volunteering, please click on the expression of interest form link below to learn more about upcoming opportunities and how you can support our school.
Volunteering Expression of Interest
We truly appreciate the generosity of all who are able to help.
Comedy Festival – A Huge Success!
This week, our school community came together for a very special event — our first ever Comedy Festival, proudly organised and led by our amazing SRC team. Representatives from every class across the school took to the stage to share their best jokes, entertaining students, staff and families with confidence, creativity and plenty of humour.
From Prep to Year 6, our student comedians delivered punchlines that had the whole school laughing. The festival was a resounding success, filling the MPC with joy, giggles and the kind of belly laughs that bring everyone together.
A huge congratulations to our SRC leaders for their organisation, teamwork and creativity in bringing this event to life. Their leadership helped create a memorable moment for our whole school community.
Below are just a few of the jokes shared on the day, along with some Student Voice reflections about what they loved most about being part of the event.
Avni 3A – It was quite funny, and some of the jokes were interesting.
