F/1/2 CLASSROOM

We have had a busy and exciting few weeks in the F/1/2 classroom, with students settling beautifully into routines and continuing to show great enthusiasm towards their learning. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence, supporting one another, and showing our class expectations each day.
In Literacy, our Foundation students are continuing to make amazing progress. Students are now learning two new letters each week, we have now learned 10 letters of the alphabet. It has been so exciting to see students beginning to read and spell simple words independently. Foundation students also now have a reader they can enjoy in the morning. If you are in the classroom in the mornings, please feel free to grab a reader and read with your child – they are so proud to share their growing reading skills.
Our Year 1 students have been learning new digraphs and continuing to expand their tricky word knowledge. Year 2 students have been focusing on nouns, split digraphs, spelling patterns, and continuing to develop their comprehension and fluency skills.
In Mathematics, Foundation students have been exploring part-whole number concepts and learning how numbers can be broken into smaller parts. Year 1 students have been focusing on counting and place value, while Year 2 students have continued building their understanding of place value through hands-on learning activities and problem-solving tasks.
Recently, adjustments were made to our Mathematics groups to better support student learning across Foundation, Grade 1, and Grade 2. Students are now working in separate year-level groups, allowing for more targeted teaching, support, and extension opportunities. Students have settled into these new groups extremely well, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence continue to grow.
In Inquiry, students have been learning about places and have begun exploring maps of Rushworth, including creating maps of their own. Students have enjoyed identifying important places within our community and discussing why places are special to different people.
Last Friday, students participated in our Cross Country event, we were so proud of the effort, perseverance and encouragement shown throughout the day. It was wonderful to see students cheering each other on and giving their best effort.
On Thursday, we welcomed our local kinder students into our classroom for a visit. Students enjoyed a story together and participated in a special Mother’s Day activity.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Project Compassion lolly jar fundraiser. Students loved participating, congratulations to our lucky winners! We greatly appreciate the support from our families and school community.
This week, the F/1/2 students proudly led our Mother’s Day Mass. Students did a wonderful job participating in the celebration and showing respect and confidence
throughout the Mass. It was lovely to come together as a school community to celebrate and acknowledge the important people in our lives ahead of Mother’s Day.
I am very proud of the effort all students are putting into their learning and the kindness they continue to show towards one another each day. It has been lovely to see the positive relationships, support and care students are showing within our classroom.
