This term, the KYPP’s KUPS coffee cart is once again in full swing. Students are still completing their coffee-making as part of their hospitality units and are making great coffee and cookies for both the KYPP and FLO staff on a weekly basis. During this time, we also ran an extra special coffee day with cupcakes to raise funds for the Cancer Council as part of our biggest morning tea fundraiser, which will also be happening on the 21st of May. The special coffee-and-cake day raised $108 for this worthy cause. The students also make schnitzel and beef burgers for staff members as part of their hospitality competencies, and the feedback was glowing. We will have more lunch days for the FLO staff coming up before the end of the term.
As part of our 'Looking after Yourself' unit of work, we have had visits this week to the Sexual Health Nurse at LRH and an Alcohol and Drug information session run by ASCO. She shared some really interesting resources with us, such as 'Hello Sunday Morning' App designed to help you with Alcohol issues, as well as a text service - 0439835563 in which you can text a drug name and receive important information about what a particular drug does and what its effects are. Being aware of these services and linking to the community is an important part of the Kurnai Young Parents Program.
