Bridging Group News

After studying Lord of the Flies in Term 1, the Bridging Program has shifted its focus towards shorter and more targeted literacy learning tasks. Students have been participating in activities covering reading, comprehension, spelling and writing, with a particular focus on the topic of social media.

Through these lessons, students have been encouraged to think critically about the impacts of social media, exploring both the positive opportunities it can provide as well as some of the challenges and risks associated with online platforms. Students have engaged in discussions, information texts and writing activities designed to build their confidence and understanding of these important real-world issues.

As the term progresses, students will begin working towards a longer written piece where they will develop their ability to make a case, justify their opinions and argue their stance on a topic of their choice. This work will focus on building persuasive writing skills, developing clear arguments and supporting ideas with evidence.

In our Bridging numeracy sessions this term, students have been demonstrating engagement and effort as they work on increasingly complex learning involving larger numbers, decimals, and percentages. They are working hard to apply their skills to real-life problem-solving tasks involving money, time and data, while developing strategies to check and explain their thinking. It has been pleasing to see students persist in the face of challenges, contribute thoughtfully to class discussions, and continue to build positive learning habits in Mathematics.

Our Bridging students have also been engaging well in Art, PE and Cooking. They have been following a similar structure to the middle groups in their sessions, which you can read about on the next page.
