Grade 3/4 Hoop Time

On Wednesday 16th September, our Grade 3/4 students travelled to Nunawading Basketball Stadium to compete in the Junior Hoop Time Competition. Hoop Time is always an extremely popular event at Kalinda, with many students keen to be involved, although unfortunately not everyone is able to be selected. Students were selected through a trial process, with teams entered across the All Stars, Future Stars and Rookies sections.

On the day, all teams played four or more basketball games against other primary schools. We were incredibly proud of the way all our students represented our school. Their skill and competitiveness were matched by excellent sportsmanship and respect for others, and it was great to see so many students enjoying the experience and developing their skills throughout the day.

It was fantastic to see so many small acts of kindness throughout the day. Students were seen helping opposition players up after big falls, thanking referees at the end of games and showing respect to their opponents regardless of the result. These moments are a great reflection of the values we strive to promote at Kalinda.

A very big congratulations to our boys' All Stars team, who went undefeated throughout the day and have progressed through to the next level of competition - the Regional Finals! The Regional Finals will be held on Wednesday 12th November at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. The team demonstrated excellent basketball skills, teamwork and determination throughout the day and are very deserving of this achievement. We wish them all the very best as they take on the next level of competition!

This year also saw the introduction of Grade 5/6 students assisting with our Junior Hoop Time teams. This was an extremely popular opportunity, with many Grade 5/6 students expressing an interest in supporting the younger students. A big thank you to our selected student helpers - Kai, Toby, Eddie, Jack, Evie, Abby and Will — for giving up their time and helping our teams throughout the day. Your leadership and support were greatly appreciated.

Finally, a huge thank you to all the parents, as well as former Kalinda student Archie, who gave up their time to manage and support a team on the day. Your time, energy and enthusiasm made a huge difference and were greatly appreciated.

Well done to all of our Grade 3/4 Hoop Time participants - you should all be very proud of the way you represented Kalinda!

Ringwood North District Athletics

Towards the end of Term 3, selected Kalinda students proudly represented our school at the Ringwood North District Athletics Carnival, held at Bill Sewart Athletics Track.

Students from Grades 3 to 6 were selected to compete after achieving fantastic results at our House Athletics Carnival. Despite the cold and rainy conditions, our athletes demonstrated excellent skill and gave their best effort throughout the day. Every student encouraged and supported one another, making us incredibly proud of the way they represented Kalinda.

A huge congratulations to the following students who placed first or second in their events and have been invited to compete at the Division Athletics Carnival this Thursday, October 8.

We wish them all the very best and look forward to hearing how they go!
