What's happening around our school...

Prep

The Prep children were very lucky at the end of last term - we had a visit from a parent vet and a parent paramedic. We learnt so many things about these wonderful helpers in our Kalinda Community. Roxy came to visit us, and our wonderful vet showed us how to use a stethoscope to listen to her heartbeat! We got to have a turn in the ambulance, and the lights were flashing! We even sat in the driver’s seat, had a turn of lying on the gurney, and we put bandages on each other! Thank you so much to our wonderful parents for making this happen and teaching us so much about your professions.

Grades 1& 2

Our Grade 1/2 students have been shining brightly through their Star of the Day Fairytale Presentation! We have been amazed by the creativity, imagination and enthusiasm shown by our students.

From incredible dioramas and original fairytale stories to entertaining puppet shows and imaginative new fairytale settings, every presentation was unique and thoughtfully created. It has been wonderful to see students confidently share their work with their classmates, developing their speaking and listening skills while showing genuine interest and appreciation for each other’s ideas and creations.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parents and families for supporting the students with their projects and encouraging their creativity at home. Your support has helped make this learning experience so special.

We are incredibly proud of all our Grade 1/2 students and the confidence, creativity and enthusiasm they have shown!

Grades 3&4

We are so excited to be back for a busy and exciting Term 4!

We hope everyone had a wonderful break and is feeling refreshed and ready for the final term of the year.

This week in Literacy, we have begun exploring our new text, Born to Run by Cathy Freeman. Students are building their knowledge and understanding of the text as they prepare to write their own information report about a chosen athlete. They will be researching their athlete, gathering interesting facts and learning how to organise their information into a clear and engaging report.

In Numeracy this week, we will be exploring data collection and analysis. Students will learn how to choose an appropriate method for collecting data and accurately record their findings using tally marks. They will also learn how to analyse their data, ask questions and collect their own data to investigate questions that interest them.

Our Inquiry focus this term will be Smart Cities! Students will explore what makes a community a safe, inclusive and effective place to live, while developing their understanding of rules, laws, rights and responsibilities. They will investigate the role of local government, how decisions are made democratically and how people can actively participate and contribute to their communities. Throughout the term, students will use their learning to design and create their own Smart City, considering how they can make their city a better place for everyone.

Grades 5 & 6

Term 4 is here, and for our Grade 6s it's their last term of primary school. We know it means a lot to them (and to us), and we want to make their remaining time really matter. Our Grade 5s are also starting to look ahead to next year, when they'll be the senior students of the school, and many of them are already excited to take on that role.

On Thursday, the whole year level will enjoy our Aussie Dash reward, which the students have been working towards throughout Term 3. Well done to 5/6MM, who finished as the overall winners and travelled the furthest.

We're also starting our Minecraft Sustainability Inquiry this term. Students will design and build communities in Minecraft Education that tackle real environmental problems. A few of them have already been asking about this term's inquiry, so we know they're keen to get started. Watch this space in the coming weeks for their drafts, sketches and plans for a sustainable living environment in Minecraft Education.

Sports Dress Up Day

What a fantastic day we had celebrating our Sports Dress Up Day! It was wonderful to see so many different sports represented across the school, with students proudly showing off their favourite teams, athletes and sporting interests. Even better was seeing the excellent sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the day, with students encouraging one another, playing fairly and celebrating each other’s achievements.

Students participated in a range of outdoor sporting activities, as well as sport themed games and activities in their classrooms. There was plenty of enthusiasm, teamwork and friendly competition throughout the day!

Students also put their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills to the test with our ‘Guess the Number’ challenge, where they had to estimate the total number for our school. It was fantastic to see the many different strategies students used to make their estimates, including grouping, counting, using known quantities and making reasonable predictions.

Our ‘Guess the Number’ winners will be announced and prizes presented at our next school assembly.
