We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future. We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.
Welcome back to Term 4! I hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break and is feeling refreshed and ready for another exciting term at Kalinda Primary School.
We have an incredibly busy and exciting term ahead, with lots happening across the school. Our Year 3 and 4 students will be heading off on their camp, our Prep students will enjoy an excursion to see Pevan & Sarah, and our Year 1 and 2 students will be visiting Mont de Lancey Historic Homestead. We also have our Japan Study Tour beginning next week, along with plenty of other exciting learning experiences and events throughout the term.
And, of course, as Term 4 progresses, we will be looking forward to our Christmas Carols and celebrating our Year 6 students at their Graduation. It is always a special time of year at Kalinda as we celebrate the achievements of our students and the wonderful community we have built together.
I am looking forward to sharing another fantastic term with our students, staff and families.
Our Branch Out Japan Study Tour is now almost here, and there is a real sense of excitement around the school as we prepare for our students to embark on this incredible experience next week.
I am incredibly proud that we are able to provide our students with the opportunity to travel to another country, experience a different culture, attend school at our sister school, Lilyvale Elementary School, and develop so many important skills along the way.
While the trip will certainly provide students with wonderful memories and exciting experiences, it is also an opportunity for them to develop independence, resilience, adaptability, confidence and an appreciation of the world beyond our own community. They will be challenged in new ways, experience things that are unfamiliar and have the opportunity to learn from every part of their journey.
Hiromi Sensei, White Sensei and the staff attending from Warranwood Primary School have all worked incredibly hard to prepare for the trip. They have put enormous time and effort into ensuring our students are ready to face challenges, make the most of every opportunity and thrive throughout the experience.
I know our students will represent Kalinda Primary School, Warranwood Primary School and Australia with pride, respect and enthusiasm. I cannot wait to see them take on this experience and make memories that I am sure they will carry with them for many years to come.
In our next newsletter, I will be writing my article from Japan, so I look forward to sharing some of our experiences and adventures with you!
As we head into the warmer months, it is important that we continue to keep our students Sun Smart.
All students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat every day when outside at school. Please ensure your child brings their hat to school each day and has their name clearly marked on it.
Applying sunscreen before school is also strongly recommended. If you would like your child to reapply sunscreen during the school day, please send sunscreen to school with them. Students can then reapply it as needed.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe and protected from the sun as we enjoy the warmer weather and the many outdoor activities that Term 4 brings.
Next Friday, October 16, we will be celebrating Cleaners' Day and taking the opportunity to recognise and thank the wonderful people who work behind the scenes to keep our school clean, safe and welcoming every day.
Our cleaners play such an important role in our school community. Long after many of us have gone home, they are working hard to clean classrooms, shared spaces, bathrooms and other areas around the school, ensuring that our students and staff return each day to a clean and comfortable environment.
Their work is often something we don't notice when everything is going well, but it makes a huge difference to the experience of everyone at Kalinda.
Please join me in saying a huge thank you to our cleaners for everything they do for our school. We really appreciate their hard work, care and commitment to keeping Kalinda looking its best!
We are kind. We are resilient. We are respectful.
