WEEK 8 | TERM 3

Year 6 Newsletter

Reading

This week, students have been developing their understanding of how non-fiction texts are organised to help readers locate and understand information. They explored features such as headings, subheadings, bold words, short paragraphs, captions, diagrams, photographs and glossaries. Students discussed how each feature supports the reader and practised using these text features to find key information efficiently and build a deeper understanding of non-fiction texts.

Writing

During Writing, students have been exploring transactional texts and developing their understanding of how purpose and audience influence the way a text is written. They have examined different text types, including invitations, emails and acceptance letters, and identified the features that make each text effective. Students have also considered why writers make particular language and structural choices to communicate their message clearly and appropriately to their intended audience.

Numeracy

During Numeracy, students have been developing their understanding of percentages by learning how to calculate percentage discounts. They have been applying their knowledge of percentages to determine the amount of a discount and calculate the final price of items. Students have also been developing their problem-solving skills by applying these strategies to a range of real-world contexts.
