In Reading, we have been learning how to use the author’s clues to make inferences and think beyond what is directly stated in the text. Students have been looking closely at character traits, behaviours and appearance to gather clues and make sensible inferences about characters. Last week, we focused on summarising using the SWBST strategy (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then), which helped students identify the most important information and retell a text using key details. This week, we are building on these skills by using the clues authors provide to deepen our understanding of characters and texts.
