VCE Westgate Musical

On Wednesday the 25th of March the Year 11 and 12 VCE Theatre Studies students and 9 / 10 Drama class attended the Dennis Macintosh Performance of West Gate. The show takes from the real-world event of the 1970s West Gate Bridge collapse making the show a realistic representation for those who fell victim to the tragedy. The show itself also consisted of devastating themes of grief and mourning of those lost in the event but also contrasted with relatable and comical stereotypical Australian characters which gave the audience a good laugh. The students also attended a pre and post-show question session accompanied by the Director and Stage manager, where imaginations ran wild with theatrical possibilities. Overall, the show was emotionally impactful and left all audience members with a new realisation of how The West Gate collapse impacted people's lives represented through humor, recognisable character traits and most importantly devastation.
