Physical Education

Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2
This Term, students have been practising their catching, underarm and overarm throwing. They have been learning how to use the correct technique, by taking a step forward, and throwing towards the chest (underarm throw), or taking a step forward, making an L shape with their hand and throwing at a long distance (overarm throw). Games to demonstrate these skills include ‘Rob the Nest’ and aiming activities. All students have been doing an amazing job, by taking their time, working productively with a partner and in groups.
Years 3, 4, 5 and 6
This Term, Years 3-6 did a fantastic job with the Athletics. Students have been practising the skills weekly in PE classes during the first half of the term, particularly High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and Discus. In Week 6, students demonstrated these skills to a high level, representing their houses, themselves and Lucas with pride, well done to all who participated. Students who will be representing Lucas in the next round will be announced later this week.
In the second half of the term, the students have been working on their fitness and physical strength. The activities included 1minute fitness activities, such as high knees, squats, push ups and shuttle runs. They were able to recognise that their heart rate increases during these exercises, how to control their breathing and build up their stamina.
