Visual Art

Foundation
Our Foundation students have made a fantastic start to their Art learning. They have been learning about the rules and routines of the art room as they explore the art elements of line, shape, and colour. A big focus of our work has been to explore the way lines can make different shapes and patterns. So far, we have made some colourful Line Monsters, an abstract piece focusing online and Colour and a Shape Robot Collage. Well done, preps on such an enthusiastic term of learning In Art.
Years 1 and 2
Our artists in Years 1-6 have started the year looking at Australian Flora and using this as inspiration for several pieces of Art. They have created some fabulous paper collages of Australian native flowers such as Waratahs and Banksias. They have also created some wonderful gum nut flower mobiles.
Years 3 and 4
The Year 3's and 4's have also been working on some Australian native flower pieces for our Australiana themed Art Show later in the year. Our Year 3s have created some fabulous cardboard relief sculpture collages of the Banksia flower as well as learning about printing and stamping techniques to create a painting of a callistemon flower. Over the past several weeks the students have begun work on some papier mache Australian animals.
Our Year 4 artists started the year looking at the work of artist Lamai Anne and her paintings of Australian flora. They were inspired by her artwork painted on plates to create a painted wooden disc in her style. They have also commenced work on a papier mache clown fish to go in this year’s ‘glow gallery’.
Years 5 and 6
Our Year 5/6 students have been learning about the different between street art and graffiti. They have learnt about several different street artists both international and locally, such as Banksy and Cax One, and explored the ‘street art scene’ in Melbourne through images and videos. There have been lots of engaging discussions and all students have been highly engaged in this unit of work. The students learnt about different types of lettering and typography to create a ‘graffiti fence’ featuring their name. They have had a lot of fun with this project.
