Prep’s First Excursion To Edendale Farm

Our Prep students recently enjoyed their very first school excursion to Edendale Farm as part of our Sustainability and Causation topic. 

Despite the extremely wet weather and plenty of rain, our Prep students embraced the day with enthusiasm and excitement. They explored the farm and learned about habitats, plants, animals and ways we can care for our environment. Students participated in three engaging programs led by the Edendale Farm educators. 

During 'Habitat Heroes', students discovered what animals need in their habitats and explored how plants can attract bees, birds and frogs. They also learned about different ways we can provide shelter for local wildlife, including rocks, habitat boxes and insect hotels. In 'It’s a Bug’s Life', students became minibeast explorers! They learned about the important roles of little creatures such as bees, worms and waterbugs, as well as their lifecycles and relationships with their environment. 

Students also took part in 'What Waterbug Is That?', where they investigated waterbugs collected from the Edendale creek. Using identification charts, they learned about water quality and how living things are affected by their environment. Students also had the opportunity to explore the farm and meet some of the animals. Even with the rain, they remained curious, engaged and excited to discover everything Edendale had to offer. 

It was a fantastic first excursion filled with hands-on learning, discovery and plenty of muddy adventures! We were incredibly proud of our Prep students for their enthusiasm, resilience and wonderful behaviour throughout the day.
