Excursion to the EcoCentre, St Kilda Botanical Gardens

On Wednesday 12 August, our students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to the EcoCentre at the St Kilda Botanical Gardens, where they spent the day learning all about sustainability and how we can help care for our environment.

The day was filled with fun, hands-on activities that encouraged students to think about the choices they make every day. One of the highlights was participating in a recycling relay race, where students worked together to sort different items into the correct bins. They learned what can and cannot be recycled, as well as the importance of using the right bin to reduce waste and protect our environment.

Students also explored the concept of food miles and discovered how far food often travels before it reaches our plates. They learned that transporting food requires energy and can have an impact on the environment. This sparked some excellent discussions about buying local produce and making environmentally friendly choices.

Another activity was learning about worms and the important role they play in keeping our soil healthy.

Throughout the excursion, students demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in caring for the world around them. It was a fantastic day of learning, exploration, and fun, and we are very proud of the way our students represented the school.

We thank the staff at the EcoCentre for providing such an engaging and educational experience, and we look forward to seeing our students continue to put their sustainability learning into action. 🌱♻️🐛
