Italian Day Reflection – 20th August 2026 

What a wonderful day for our students, staff, parents and wider SJW community on Thursday 20th August! 

Lots of smiles and a sea of verde/green, bianco/white and rosso/red surrounded our school. All students and staff had fun dressing up in diverse colourful costumes which varied from Ferrari drivers, pizza chefs and waiters/ress, Mona Lisa, Pinocchio, jumbo size pizzas, lots of soccer players and we even had Zorro come for a visit! 

Students commenced their day with a whole school assembly led by the school captains which consisted of prayers and acknowledgement to country in Italian. Students paraded in their bellissimi/beautiful costumes, some students from 3-6 shared and showcased their learning, the Preps sung Cento Giorni and the JLAs performed La Tarantella!  

The day was filled with a range of activities that allowed students to learn many different aspects of the Italian culture, traditions, customs and the language. Students also had an opportunity to view the bilingual performance – L’Ingrediente Segreto a highly entertaining show which allowed frequent audience participation, lots of singing and many laughs! Some students were even asked up on stage to assist in the performance by dressing up in a range of costumes. 

Lunchtime was pizza and gelato for all – sincerest thanks to all our P & F members who organised and distributed the pizza and gelati to all the grades.  GRAZIE MILLE! 

A BIG thank you/GRAZIE to Dolce Vita Pizza for making the pizza and Everest Ice cream for supplying the gelato. 

A colossal thanks to all the parents and family members who joined us on the day either at the assembly or assisted with distributing the pizza and gelati, our school captains and some of our MLA students with organising the slideshow for our assembly, our photographers for the day; Cherrie and Rosa, Stephanie for teaching the JLAs the Tarantella, Michele for all her support with the lunch orders and all the staff that supported the students with the varied activities throughout the day!
