STEM

SCIENCE: This term in Science, we explored classification, forces, the structure and function of the body, and states of matter.
We also enjoyed hands-on activities like dissecting a heart, building marble racetracks, designing parachutes to protect an egg, creating DNA and even making ice cream.
It has been a fun and engaging term of learning!
SUSTAINABILITY: Students in the Sustainability class have continued to work in the Mullinmur Billabong relating to the planting of aquatic plants.
Not only have they maintained the floating plant rafts, but they have now begun planting directly into the Billabong floor. To protect these plants from European Carp, student have caged sections in the Billabong to help support these plants surviving.
So far, the aquatic plants are thriving.
VEX ROBOTICS: This term, students have been actively engaged in hands-on learning through our VEX Robotics program, developing their skills in coding, building, and problem-solving.
We began with VEXcode VR, where students programmed a virtual robot to complete a range of challenges. This allowed them to build confidence in coding, test ideas quickly, and develop logical thinking skills in a supportive digital environment.
Following this, students transitioned to working with physical robots, building their own VEX IQ robots. They applied their coding knowledge to real-world situations, completing practical challenges that required teamwork, persistence, and creative problem-solving.
To extend their understanding further, students explored VEX CTE Workcells, where they built and learned about robotic arms used in factory settings. This introduced them to concepts such as automation, manufacturing processes, and how robotics is used in industry.
Overall, it has been fantastic to see students grow in confidence as they experiment, problem-solve, and collaborate.
The VEX program continues to provide an engaging way for students to develop important STEM skills that will support their future learning.
