ENGLISH: This term in English, students across all three classes have been engaging in rich and purposeful literacy learning.

Leif and Greg’s class have been exploring persuasive writing through a selection of speeches and persuasive texts, learning how authors shape arguments for impact. They have also focused on strengthening their spelling skills using the Sound Waves phonics approach.

Trent and Tanu’s class have been delving into Shaun Tan’s Stories from Our Suburbia, using the text as inspiration for imaginative narrative writing.

Meanwhile, Josh and Janine’s class have been building strong sentence structure, engaging with the novel War Horse, and applying their understanding through persuasive writing tasks. It has been a creative and productive start to the term for all our students.

In addition to classroom learning, all students completed DIBELS testing this term. DIBELS is a short assessment used to monitor students’ reading development, helping teachers identify strengths and areas for targeted support. The results guide our ongoing planning to ensure every student continues to grow as a confident and capable reader.

MATHEMATICS: This term in Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of key number concepts, including integers, square and cube numbers, and fractions. They have been engaging with the Ochre program, which is aligned with the Science of Learning, providing a structured approach that incorporates daily review, explicit reteaching, and the introduction of new learning in manageable steps. In addition, students have been completing their General All testing through Essential Assessment, giving teachers valuable data to track progress and plan for targeted instruction.
