Year Two Team News

with Joel, Bianca I, Zoe and Rochelle

Hello Year Two families,

Our students quickly settled back into school life after a well-earned break, and it was great to see the excitement they had shown to be back at school with their teachers and friends. We have hit the ground running and jumped straight back into our regular program.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 3 and 4

  • Literacy: In Reading, we will be looking at summarising texts to improve comprehension. In Writing, we will be working on compound sentences and beginning to look at persuasive writing.  The topic for the Term 3 oral presentation is ‘The Ways My Family Played in the Past!’ Please look out for the note that was sent home with your child for more information.
  • Numeracy:  We will complete our unit of work on data, where students have been collecting data, representing survey results by tally marks on a frequency table and creating simple picture and bar graphs. We will also revise place value concepts.
  • Inquiry: This term, our Inquiry unit is called ‘How Has Play Changed?’ We will continue looking at toys from the past and discuss how toys and play have changed over time. We will analyse why these changes have been made and discuss whether these changes are positive or negative, or a mixture of both. Please see below for some photos from one of our first ‘tuning in’ lessons.
  • Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Resilience, we are learning about bravery and the many different ways that we can display bravery in our everyday lives.
  • Respectful Relationships: This term we are focusing on Gender and Identity. We will be exploring a range of activities that will support students to reflect on their identities: likes, dislikes and strengths. We will develop an awareness of positive and negative gender norms, challenge negative gender norms and develop an appreciation of difference.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Joel Kitchen (2J), Bianca Italiano / Zoe Kitchen (2I) & Rochelle White (2W)
