LOTE (French)

Prep–Year 2

This term, our younger students are continuing their French adventures with Ton Ton! These couple weeks, we are focusing on introducing ourselves in French and building confidence when communicating with our classmates. Students are learning how to greet one another, ask, and answer simple questions, and use every day French phrases in conversations. It’s wonderful to see their confidence grow as they practise speaking in class.

Years 3–6

Our senior students have begun an exciting unit exploring French stories, fairy tales, and fiction books. Throughout the term, they will build their French vocabulary while learning to describe characters using a range of character traits. Students have also been introduced to their end-of-term assessment, a Paper Bag Book Report, where they will creatively present a French story by demonstrating their understanding of the characters, vocabulary, and key events. I look forward to seeing their creativity and French language skills shine!

French Club

I’m excited to be launching a French Club for students in Years 3–6, beginning this term! French Club will run every Wednesday at 1:40 pm and is a fantastic opportunity for students who would like to extend their French learning beyond the classroom. Through fun, hands-on activities, games, crafts, cultural experiences, and language challenges, students will have the chance to explore the French language and culture in greater depth while building their confidence in an engaging and supportive environment.

Performing Arts 

Prep: Students have started learning about Drama and acting. They have understood that acting is ‘pretending’ and have tried acting out different animals focusing on their movement. They have also used their imagination to change a scarf into another object or taken something out of a magic box using actions to show what it is.

Year 1/2: Students have reviewed what acting and drama is. They have played drama games including acting out guided mimes, individual mime actions and imaginary walks. 

Grade 3/4: Students have watched examples of professional actors perform and have considered the skills an actor needs to make them believable. They have played drama games and acted out a mime scene with a partner focusing on non verbal communication.

Grade 5/6: Students have watched Henry Thomas’ audition tape for the movie, ET. They have used this a s a starting point for considering the skills an actor needs to make them believable. They have played drama games and acted out a mime scene with a partner focusing on reacting and being believable. 

Music Clubs - Upcoming Performances

Week 6: 5/6C Whole School Assembly 21/08

The Marimba Band will have their first performance.

Week 8: 5/6B Whole School Assembly 4/9

The Rock Band will have their first performance.

The Choir will have their second performance for the year.

Each club are also working on learning and preparing some new songs to perform later in the year. 

We look forward to hearing from them again at the Art Show on Sunday 25th October. (Times to be advised)

Visual Art

We’ve hit the ground running and have been super busy creating pieces for our upcoming Art Show in Term 4! Our theme is ‘Australian Made’ and we will be leaning into the retro vibe with a variety of amazing art pieces to put on display!

Most grades had some finishing off to do from Term 2 and will spend two sessions completing their ‘Crazy Camel’ fundraiser art pieces in the first few weeks of the term. More information about this fundraiser will go out towards the end of Term 3. We are super excited for you to see everything we have been working on all year!!!

Grade Prep

This week the Prep’s have finished off their boom boxes and have moved onto to some NAIDOC week inspired art pieces using paint sticks and paint pens. We will also create a unique background for our ‘Crazy Camel’ pieces using foil, textas and water. These will be finished in the next few sessions where the Preps will be creating some self-portraits to add to their unique backgrounds.

Grade 1

The Grade 1’s created some NAIDOC week inspired art pieces using paper tubes and paint pens. This week we have been covering twigs with wool creating some very colourful patterns. We will partner these with our decorated tubes for a beautiful display. 

Grade 2

The Grade 2’s decorated some CD’s using paint pens and indigenous symbols in recognition of NAIDOC week. They will complete these this week and then move onto their ‘Crazy Camel’ art pieces. 

Grade 3/4

This week, some of the Grade 3/4’s helped design the Art Show billboard advertising. We created a free hand drawing of Australia and added some ‘Australiana’ details. Most grades will be completing their ‘Crazy Camel’ art Pieces over the next couple of weeks.

Grade 5/6

Most of the Grade 5/6’s have completed their ‘Gelli’ plate backgrounds and they have all enjoyed this new skill. We are still working on our 3D mini food trucks which will hopefully be finished this week. All students will then move onto their ‘Crazy Camel art pieces. 

Art club

Art club is available to different year levels each term. The schedule for 2026 will be as follows:

Art smocks

Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

Physical Education

Welcome back to Term 3! Students have returned to PE with plenty of enthusiasm and have settled quickly into their new units.

Prep

Foundation students are developing their kicking skills. They are learning to kick a stationary ball and control the direction and force of their kicks through a range of activities and games.

Years 1 & 2

Students are exploring space and passing in preparation for invasion games. Year 1 students are learning to move into space and send an object into space, while Year 2 students are focusing on creating space and improving their passing accuracy.

Years 3 & 4

Students have begun a net and wall games unit. They are practising sending a ball over a net, receiving and returning it with control, positioning themselves effectively and keeping a rally going with a partner.

Years 5 & 6 

Students have started an invasion games unit focusing on team formations and attacking strategies. They are learning to spread out, create space, communicate and work together to move the ball effectively.

Sport Update

Five Year 5 and 6 teams reached the Williamstown District winter sport grand finals at the end of Term 2. Our AFL and Hockey teams and Boys/Mixed Softball teams finished as District runners-up—an outstanding result that reflected the students’ skill, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Our District Champion teams then progressed to Division competition, with Hockey representing WPS on Wednesday 22 July and AFL on Thursday 23 July. Thank you to the staff and families who supported the teams.

The Williamstown District Athletics Carnival will be held on Wednesday 12 August. Students who qualified through our House Athletics Competition will represent WPS against schools from across the district. Families should watch Compass for final event information.
