Runt

by Craig Silvey

Runt is one of those stories that everyone can enjoy, regardless of their age or whether they like dogs or cats – filled with plenty of humour, heart, and hilarious characters, it is a story that will remain with readers long after reading.

11-year-old Annie Shearer and her adopted (former stray) dog, Runt, are inseparable. Runt has a talent for herding sheep but will only do it for Annie – he won’t do if he thinks anyone else is watching. Their family is at risk of losing their farm due to debt and drought, and Annie realises that Runt’s talent may be the key to saving it – by entering dog agility competition – but it will only work if she can figure out a way to overcome Runt’s stage fright.

Standing in Annie and Runt’s way is greedy landowner Earl Robert-Barren, who wants to buy the Shearers’ farm, and devious dog handler Fergus Fink, who is determined to win the competition at any cost. Can Annie and Runt succeed against all the odds?

Runt is a very charming, funny, witty story that everyone can enjoy – and for those who have already read it, the sequel is available now!
