Principal's Report
We have just tipped over the halfway point of Term 3. There were lots of learning, events and opportunities in the first half of this term, with many more to look forward to in the second half. Thanks to all our primary parents for their attendance at the recent Three Way Conferences. This opportunity is coming up for secondary parents in Week 9. Below are some recent highlights, updates and some events and opportunities to look forward to for our school.
Year 10 Senior Program Interviews
It’s an exciting time in Year 10 at the moment with Senior Program transition interviews taking place. Our Year 10 students have taken the time to explain to their future teachers, with support from their current teachers, what they are capable of in their senior years at Wurun Senior Campus. The transition to senior programs is an important step in the education journey and it’s been wonderful to see and hear about the ambitions of our young people at Collingwood. Based on this information the two schools will now create the Senior Program together. We look forward to notifying students early in Term 4 of their final subject selections.
International Student Program - Collingwood College showcased
On Tuesday September 1st, a film crew will visit Collingwood College to create a two minute video showcasing the wares of our school to prospective students from all over the world.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase some of the many things that make Collingwood College special — including our Steiner and IB MYP programs, specialist and elective offerings, and our distinctive, community-focused culture.
We will ensure that the appropriate media consent is obtained for all participating students and staff, including anyone who may appear in the background.
We are pleased to be selected for this opportunity from the many International Student Program providers in Victoria
School wide focus on reading in the month of August - MS Read-a-thon
We’ve been focusing across the school on the importance of reading in the month of August. Thanks to all who have signed up for the MS Read-a-thon to set a reading goal and make positive strides in their reading habits. It’s too late and every effort counts - so sign up using our school page.
We raised $345 towards our goal of $500. So it’s not too late to get involved. Well done to all who have signed up!
Book Week
Book Week runs from the 24-28th August and is the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate books and reading across all learning areas.
The theme this year is Symphony of Stories which is a terrific metaphor for reading to unpack with students.
Book Week is celebrated for the entirety of the week, but specific activities run on Wednesday 26/8
- Dress up day for staff and students
- The Great Book Swap (Alina) *Bring a gold coin and visit the library to grab a book. Money raised supports the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Wednesday and Thursday.
A new addition to Book Week festivities is the Doll’s House. School Council Vice President, Hannah Marshall, has organised reading activities to take place in the Doll’s House to celebrate reading/books, and allow our community to immerse themselves in the historical wonders of the house. Three Year 9 students will also be reading to primary students as part of their Community Project, and there will be a competition for students to write/create something that connects to the house.
So we encourage our whole community to become involved in this fantastic celebration of reading, the art of storytelling and books.
Theatre Building Update
Progress is moving steadily forward for our Theatre refurbishment. We have frames and roofing in place for our new classrooms. All mechanical and hydraulic refurbishments have been built. The new lighting and sound box is now taking shape, as is the shaft for the new lift. The new entrance and improvements to our entrance space are mapped out. In the weeks that lead up to Term 3 School Holidays, we can expect to see new windows, some of the facade in place and more of the interior to be finished off. We will keep you updated on this project.
