Year 5/6 - Senior Unit

Literacy
Students are currently working on their explanation texts as part of their Science Project on Chemical Science. They are moving through each stage of the writing process, including drafting, revising and publishing. We are very excited to see their final pieces, along with their project presentations, which are being completed as home learning. We will be holding an open classroom next Thursday, 11 December. Please stay tuned on Compass for further details.
Numeracy
Students have been developing their holiday budget plans and transferring these into spreadsheets using correct formulas. Over the past week, they have also explored elapsed time and are now applying this to create daily holiday schedules that demonstrate their understanding of elapsed time in real-life contexts.
Student Leadership 2026
Students who applied for Student Leadership positions for 2026 will find out their results today. We have been absolutely blown away by the quality, thoughtfulness and confidence shown in all applications. We are incredibly proud of every student who put their hand up. Leadership roles and badges will be announced and presented at assembly next week.
‘Bing Bam Boom’ Concert
Last week, our Senior Unit students performed in the Year 4-6 ‘Bing Bam Boom’ concert, where each class performed three songs using chairs, buckets, marimbas and more! The weather thankfully held off, and we had a fantastic family turnout. It was wonderful to hear and see all the talent, rhythm and teamwork on display. Students performed with so much confidence and enthusiasm, and we were incredibly proud of the amazing music they created together. Also a big shoutout to Mr. Bromley for all of his hard work with this!
Graduation and Celebration Day
Graduation preparations are well underway. A Compass post was shared last week with all key details, so please take the time to read this carefully.
A huge congratulations to our Year 6 students for their outstanding fundraising efforts, which have ensured that no payment is required for Celebration Day. Consent will still need to be provided on Compass. Thank you to those who have already completed this. Celebration Day will be held on the second-last day of the school year, Thursday 18 December.
Statewide Grade 6 Transition Day
Students attending a government secondary school will take part in the statewide transition day on Tuesday, 9 December. Students will be attending for the entire day. They should go directly to the secondary school they will be attending in 2026. Please note that it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure students arrive at their secondary school by 9:00am.
