WPS Community Children’s Garden

After weeks of heavy lifting, removing the old concrete-like soil from one of the large garden beds, this fortnight we filled it with new, good quality soil and compost, then filled the bed with some summer veg seedlings.
Week 1
Firstly, we learnt all about different digging tools:
Shovels – for shoveling / scooping.
Spades – for cutting into the ground.
Trowels – small, hand-held digging tools.
Then we let rip on the trailer full of new soil!
With thirty students digging and wheel burrowing, soil and FOGO compost this way and that, the trailer was empty and garden bed full in no time. Well done team!
Week 2
The following week it was time to plant pumpkin, tomato and zucchini seedlings into the refreshed garden. Now we water and wait….
Special thanks to the senior students who did a great job supervising and teaching the younger students, moving the heavy wheelbarrows and working with such enthusiasm.
