Foundation Unit

This fortnight, the Foundation students have been enjoying reading and comparing different books by author, Margaret Wild. We have read books such as, ‘The Sloth who Came to Stay,’ ‘Nighty Night!’ and ‘Chatterbox’ and students have been identifying and discussing the different writer’s craft techniques they have noticed such as onomatopoeia, alliteration, repetition and precise verbs. Students have been writing a book recommendation about their favourite book using examples of writer’s craft to justify their opinion.
In Maths, we have been improving our number fluency by playing lots of maths games. A favourite amongst the students is a game called ‘3 Little Pigs’, where students work on efficient addition strategies, as well as identifying the biggest number in a set. Students have also been carefully observing the calendar each day as we countdown to the end of term and Christmas!
You may notice that students are beginning to bring home some of their school work and art projects from throughout the year. We will attempt to stagger this so that students are able to carry their own work out with them at the end of the day. Over the next two weeks, we will also begin sending home your children’s workbooks.
We will have our last library session this coming Monday (8th). Please ask your child to check at home for any WPS library books and send these to school with them on Monday so they can be returned before the end of the year. Students will keep their red library bags for use in 2026.
This Tuesday (9th) is the statewide transition morning and the current Foundation students will meet their 2026 classes and teachers, and learn where their new classrooms will be. We look forward to hearing all about their morning when they return to their 2025 classrooms after recess.
Next week, we will also be collecting student reader bags to pass onto their next teacher along with their Magic Word book. Students will not have readers over the Christmas holidays.
