Brookside College

Specialist Expo 2025

Brookside’s annual event looked to be a wash out early on, with mother nature threatening a downpour. However, the wind stopped its howling ways, the rain held up and the sun even made an appearance. The Gymnasium doors opened at 4pm and the community came rolling in. It was a vibe! Artworks, both digital and print, as well as 3D works, were all on display showcasing all the amazing talent we have here at Brookside. Digital Technology presented masterpieces developed with code, Food Technology had tantalising treats to taste, Performing Arts and Drama put on a show, with a popular nursery rhyme and Fractured Fairy Tale News on the big screens. French spoke to us about what’s been happening in this space. Music was hitting all the notes with our Mus X students on the stage belting out famous tunes and sport tested our skills in throwing and coordination.

On show in the library was our community space where OHSC crafted beads and bracelets, HOL Trade presented projects made and offered skill testers, if any dared to be buzzed!

This year’s event saw the return of the famous ‘Dunk Tank’ where many of our school leaders happily took a dip and the students joyfully assisted. For the first time, we had axe throwing and basketball connect four to challenge our friends for a chance to win a prize. We had an opportunity to get up close and personal with reptiles and birds or get creative and designed our own badge!

Other favourites continued to delight with queues lining up for face painting, hairspray, sand art, coin toss, ring toss and karaoke.

The food zone was flipping out snags at super speed, fairy floss was flowing, popcorn was popping, the Bakesale had patrons walking away with stacks of cookies and sweets. The ice-cream van out front was scooping it up!

A crowd favourite every year was the scavenger hunt, where participants were tasked to find answers at each of the specialist displays in order to be in with a chance to win one of the three major prizes on offer. Congratulations to our three winners, who collected their prize the following week.

Matthias from Grade 1, Seth from Grade 5 and Olivia from Year 8.

The lovely Alice Jordan- Baird, our Federal MP for Gorton stopped by to join in on the festivities and was amazed at all we offer here at Brookside. So impressed she was, she expressed wanting students’ artworks for her office, bought boxes of what she could at the Bakesale and even lent her voice to a cause in upcoming projects for Grade 4 Drama.

Overall, this year’s event was believed to be the best one yet. Fantastic effort from all teachers, staff and students. A big thank you goes out to all who came to support the event, until next time!
