R U OK? Ambassadors Program

As part of the annual R U OK? Day mental health initiatives, the Brookside Wellbeing Team and external organisation No Bull Movement collaborated on a program aiming to foster mental health literacy and leadership skills.

Sixteen Year 9 students volunteered and spent six weeks becoming expert ambassadors of R U OK? Day’s core themes of mental health and wellbeing awareness.

With the help of the Wellbeing Team and No Bull, these students developed presentations for the Year 6 classes about mental health awareness and starting conversations with friends to check in and support them.

The Year 9’s facilitated games and activities alongside the informative presentations, which helped the Year 6 students to engage and have fun while they learned.

After concluding this program, the Year 9 ambassadors (plus some of their classmates who volunteered their time) provided support for staff in setting up and running activities and stalls for the R U OK? Day celebration on September 11th.

Their assistance was invaluable and ensured that the activities ran as intended so as the rest of the school could get the most enjoyment out of the day.

On behalf of the Wellbeing Team and the staff who helped and supervised on the day, we would like to express our gratitude to these students’ contributions, and our pride in their development as part of this program.

We look forward to doing it all again next year!
