Can you believe we are halfway through term 4!?
The grade 3’s has had a lot of fun learning about persuasive writing. During the last couple of weeks students have worked with each other to create reasons and find evidence the supports an opinion. Students created speeches ready for a debate that they then presented to the class.

In reading students have enjoyed reading The Wild Robot, they were lucky enough to watch the film after all of the hard work they had put in on comprehension and rich conversations about the text each lesson.

Grade 3’s finished up their financial maths unit with a much better understanding of Australian money, creating collections of money and calculating change. In their data unit students were able to show their understanding and new learnings by creating a data booklet filled with everything they have learnt for the unit.

In humanities students have continued to explore the different types of government with the main focus of our local government. Students have spent time on the Melton council website learning about all of the great things our local areas have to offer!
There are still many amazing things to learn and lots of fun activities for students to experience leading to the end of the year.
Students are very excited for upcoming events such as end of year concern and Airoworld!
We are proud of all our students' efforts, positive mindsets and look forward to acknowledging and celebrating their accomplishments with them throughout these units.

The Year 4’s have been super busy this term!
In Reading, we have been unpacking the book ‘The Wild Robot,’ written by Peter Brown. Students have been working on a range of comprehension strategies, whilst exploring this text, including summarising and inferring. They have also continued to track their thinking and work on their goal during independent reading time.

In Writing, students have been working on persuasive texts. They have been using TEEL to structure their paragraphs and have been including a range of persuasive devices, to convince their reader to agree with their opinion.
In Mathematics, for Number we have been working on all four operations. Students have revisited place value to consolidate their understanding in this area. They have also been applying a range of strategies to enhance their ability to solve problems. For measurement, we have been working on volume, mass, and capacity. Students have really enjoyed this topic!
For Humanities, students have been learning about the three levels of government and their responsibilities. We have also learnt the difference between rules and laws.
In Science, we have been learning about chemical reactions. We have conducted some experiments in class, to support students’ understanding of this topic.
This unit has been really fun so far!

Here is what some of our Year 4’s had to say about Term 4:
“I have really enjoyed Mathematics this term. It’s been fun solving problems.” – Archie

The Grade 5’s are tracking along wonderfully this term! It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm, determination, and growing confidence shining through in all areas of their learning.
Please keep reading below to find out what we have been up to:
Literacy
In Literacy, students have been learning how to use figurative language when annotating scenes from a book. They have been exploring how an author’s choices help build a reader’s connection to a character.
We’ve recently wrapped up our study of the novel “Blueback” and now moving into film studies.

Our writing focus this term is ‘Persuasive Writing’ students have explored different examples of persuasive texts to strengthen their writing skills and are now creating their own persuasive pieces using the OREO structure. Students have been writing “Letters to the Editor” with the creative option of writing from the perspective of one of the characters from the novel ‘Blueback’ this resulting in some very thoughtful and passionate work, as teachers we love to see it!
Mathematics
In Maths, students have been working on money and percentages. It’s been lovely to see them apply their learning to real life situations, such as calculating change and working out percentage discounts. These practical lessons have encouraged plenty of great discussions and problem-solving within the classroom environment.

Health
In Health, the Grade 5s have been focusing on nutrition, learning how to read food labels, make healthier choices, and discover simple food swaps. This unit of work has been highly engaging, with students showing great curiosity about how to fuel their bodies in healthy ways and it has been great facilitating engaging discussions with the students about this topic.

Humanities
In Humanities, students have been developing their own innovative product ideas as part of our mini business project. They’ve been putting on their entrepreneurial hats to design, market, and pitch creative business concepts. It’s been fantastic to see so many original ideas come to life and having some fun being creative thinkers.

Overall in Grade 5 it’s been a very busy term so far! We’re so proud of the effort and enthusiasm students have been showing and we can’t wait to see what they achieve as we continue to get closer to the end of the school term! 😊

Welcome to Grade 6!
WOW! This term has been busy. Check out what we have been up too!
In English, we have been learning how to persuade. We have explored a range of persuasive techniques used in speeches, advertisements and debates. We have learned how to use emotive language, strong arguments and rhetorical questions to convince an audience. Throughout the term, we have planned, written or published our own persuasive texts – letters, advertisements etc.

In Maths, we have been learning to solve problems involving fractions, decimals and percentages. We have explored how these concepts connect to real-life situations, such as finding the best buys, comparing value for money, and calculating discounts. We have also been learning about angles! We have worked on identifying, drawing and measuring different types of angles. We have even designed a new landmark using angles!
In other news, we have begun our transition sessions. We get to talk about the expectations in Year 7; reading a timetable, lockers, Q&A sessions with current Year 7 students and more! We are feeling mixed emotions about heading into grade 7, but mostly excited about the opportunities we’ll have. We have also put on our dancing shoes, practicing for our Brookside end of year concert.
Prepare to be amazed!
Something we are looking forward to for the rest of this term is GRADUATION!
We cannot believe the year is nearly over, so we are soaking up every moment left of our Primary school days.
