Year 7 Civics Excursion to Parliament House

As part of their Civics and Citizenship studies, this week the Year 7 students had the opportunity to visit the State Parliament of Western Australia. Along with learning about the history of our State Parliament students were able to witness democracy in action by visiting the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly and witnessed how laws are being passed or amended by our state’s members of parliament.
Students also had the opportunity to visit the Constitutional Centre of Western Australia nearby. This provided students with a fun and engaging way to learn about the history of Australia’s political systems at the local, state, and federal levels. Students then took part in a simulated election which helped them to understand the way voting is conducted in our nation.
All students were engaged and enjoyed the opportunity to experience a real-world link to what they are currently studying in HASS.
