Assistant Principal's Report

By Vicki John

Dear parents and carers,

I would like to say hello and formally introduce myself to the community now that I have settled in (somewhat)! My name is Vicki John, and I am one of the assistant principals at Glen Waverley Primary School.

The role of an assistant principal is multi-faceted; however, I primarily work within student wellbeing and inclusion. It’s a role I have been in for a few years across other schools in South East Melbourne and one that thoroughly enjoy as, although I don’t get to spend as much time as I would like in the classroom, I still am able to spend a great deal of my day with students.

Meeting and greeting students and their families each morning has been a highlight in my day over the past three weeks. I have loved chatting to the students, hearing the stories of weekend and weeknight events, seeing the gaps in smiles as I hear tooth fairy stories and being greeted warmly by name are some of the best parts of my day. I have also enjoyed visiting classrooms and spending time getting to know students. It’s been amazing to see so many of our school values including integrity, initiative, respect, and empathy so visible.

So please introduce yourself if I haven’t met you yet. I look forward to getting to know families over the last few weeks of the year and into next year!

Warmest wishes,

Vicki John
