2A

By Emma Williams

In 2A, we’ve been busy becoming narrative authors. We explored Plot Mountain to learn how stories follow a sequence, and we practised identifying these parts in familiar texts like What’s That Noise? Together, we looked for the introduction, rising action, climax, falling action and conclusion, and used this structure to help us plan stories that build excitement and keep the reader interested.

We followed the writing process of plan, draft, reread, edit, publish. Students began by designing characters and settings that felt real and interesting, then planned out the events in their story so the action flowed clearly. We talked about leaving “bread crumbs”, which are little details that help connect events and make sure the story makes sense from start to finish.

To bring their writing to life, students used descriptive language, including adjectives, verbs and adverbs, to paint a clearer picture for the reader. We also swapped out the word said for stronger verbs such as shouted, commanded and cheered to show how characters were feeling. Some learners even explored how to use a thesaurus to find new word choices and a dictionary to confirm meaning. This helped them choose vocabulary that was accurate and matched the mood, actions and emotions in their story.

Some students also experimented with using paragraphs to separate key moments and make their writing easier to follow. After rereading their piece and sharing with a peer for feedback, students completed their final edits. They then published their narrative on lined paper and designed a front cover that reflected their story.

Their final pieces show imagination, effort and confidence in their writing.
