Celebrating Music at MAG
Secondary Assembly – Student Leadership in Music
Congratulations to our newly appointed Secondary Music Captain, Blake Johns and School Vice Captain, Isobel Cunningham, who delivered a wonderful performance of Stand By Me by Ben E. King at last week’s Secondary Assembly. Their performance was a fitting celebration of leadership, connection and the important role music plays in bringing our school community together.
Thank you also to our fantastic assembly music team, who continue to support these performances and help bring live music to our assemblies. These students are Cabe Ludlow on guitar, Jasmine Costin on keyboard, and our Senior Singers, Nellie O’Brien, Charlotte White, William Eacott, Madi Main, Hunter Finn and Catherine Edwards. Your ongoing commitment to our school’s musical life is greatly appreciated!
Primary Assembly – Celebrating Young Performers
Our recent Primary Assembly showcased three wonderful student performances. Harry Nichol stepped in to replace a last minute performer absence and delivered a fantastic trumpet performance of Blues in the Closet and St James Infirmary.
We then welcomed Tahlie Clydesdale and Dakota Patten, who performed Tennessee Orange by Megan Moroney on guitar.
To finish, Sadie Palmer brought plenty of energy to the drums with Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day.
It was fantastic to see these students sharing their musical talents, performing songs they love and building confidence on stage. Well done, Harry, Tahlie, Dakota and Sadie!
Upcoming Performance at Echuca Regional Health
Our Drumline A students have been invited to perform at the Echuca Regional Health (ERH) Donor Recognition Event on Wednesday 4 November 2026. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their musical talents and give back to our local community.
We are incredibly proud of Drumline A and look forward to seeing them represent MAG at this special community occasion. Thank you to Kevin Kiely for his ongoing work and dedication in preparing our students for performances such as these.
Festival of Stories – Songwriting Workshop
It was wonderful to see our MAG students take part in a songwriting workshop with Madi Colville-Walker at the American Hotel as part of the Festival of Stories last weekend.
Our students asked thoughtful and insightful questions, gaining valuable insight into Madi’s songwriting processes and the creative thinking behind her music.
A big thank you to the Festival of Stories organisers and Madi for sharing her knowledge and experience with our students.
Rabbit Trax Live Music – Festival of Stories
It was fantastic to see so many of our MAG students take to the stage on Sunday afternoon at Gypsy Bar, performing as part of Rabbit Trax Live Music in conjunction with the Festival of Stories.
Congratulations to Blake Johns, Maelle Lyle, Lila Mislicki, Miles Allitt and Josh Barden on their performances! It was wonderful to see our students embracing the opportunity to share their creativity, including original music, covers, and their vocal and instrumental talents beyond the classroom.
Run by local musician Liam “Rabb” Guinan, Rabbit Trax Live Music provides young musicians with a valuable opportunity to perform live, build confidence and gain experience in front of an audience. Rabb is passionate about nurturing emerging talent and creating opportunities for young people to explore their artistic interests and grow as musicians.
We are incredibly fortunate to have passionate local musicians and community initiatives providing these opportunities for our students. Well done to Blake, Maelle, Lila, Miles and Josh for getting involved and continuing to develop their musical skills and confidence beyond the classroom!
Save the Date - Extra-Curricular Piano Recital
We are currently working towards an exciting new opportunity for extra-curricular piano players at our school of all levels. Led by Ms Fiona Gibbs, the Extra-Curricular Piano Recital will take place on Tuesday 24 November in the MPH, straight after school. Families of participating students will be contacted later in the Term with further details.
This recital will provide our piano students with a wonderful opportunity to share their musical progress and celebrate their achievements with family and friends.
We look forward to celebrating another fantastic year of music-making with our piano students and their families.
Online St Cecilia Piano Examinations
Best of luck to all of our piano students participating in the Online St Cecilia Piano Examinations this term.
Many students across our school are currently in the process of completing performance videos and responses to exam questions online. Once results are received, students will be acknowledged at our next assembly.
Kind regards,
Michael Hearn
