LOTE

Students across the school have been busy exploring language and culture in Indonesian this fortnight.

Prep to Year 2

In Prep to Year 2, students have been engaging with traditional Indonesian stories, building their understanding of storytelling and culture. Prep students also explored the traditional Plate Dance from West Sumatra. They are now beginning to identify the colour of their school house in preparation for upcoming school events. In Years 1 and 2, students have continued developing their number knowledge, including identifying numbers out of sequence, matching numerals, and working with larger numbers.

Years 3 to 6

In Years 3 to 6, students have been learning about Indonesian traditions and celebrations, with a focus on Ramadan and Hari Nyepi. These studies have supported students in developing an appreciation of cultural diversity and important cultural practices. In Years 3 and 4, students are also learning to tell the time in hours and to identify the four key parts of the day: 'pagi', 'siang', 'sore', and 'malam'. In Years 5 and 6, students are exploring techniques for translating a piece of work about the islands of Indonesia, using a range of strategies to support their understanding.

Performing Arts

Over the past fortnight, students across the school have been enthusiastically engaging in a range of creative and musical learning experiences.

Prep

Our Prep students have been exploring different types of instruments, including those we can hit, shake, and scrape, as well as tuned instruments. They have loved discovering the different sounds each instrument can make and how they can be used in music-making.

Years 1 & 2

Students in Years 1 and 2 have been learning about graphic notation, developing their skills in both reading and interpreting symbols. They have also been applying this knowledge by following graphic notation alongside song lyrics, building strong connections between visual and musical elements.

Years 3 & 4

In Years 3 and 4, students have been exploring instruments from cultures around the world. This has been a wonderful opportunity to broaden their understanding of music globally and appreciate the diversity of sound and tradition.

Years 5 & 6

Our Years 5 and 6 students have been having a fantastic time writing and performing their own raps. They have demonstrated creativity, rhythm, and confidence as they collaborate and share their original pieces with their peers.

School Choir

Choir has also been making great progress, with students continuing to rehearse and refine their vocal skills. Their commitment and teamwork have been excellent, and we look forward to showcasing their hard work during Monday's assembly!

It has been a vibrant and engaging fortnight in Performing Arts, and I am incredibly proud of the creativity and enthusiasm shown by students.

Physical Education

Over the past few weeks in PE, students across all year levels have been building their skills in preparation for upcoming whole school events.

Prep to Year 2

Our junior students have been enthusiastically preparing for the upcoming Cross Country event at the end of the term. They have been practising running laps of the oval, focusing on pacing and responding to starting signals.

Students also explored fundamental throwing skills through fun activities, such as bean bag toss and vortex throwing. The focus has been on safe participation and developing correct throwing technique.

Students finished off their hockey unit, learning how to safely handle a hockey stick and control a ball. Through engaging activities, like ‘Magic Stick’ and simple dribbling games, they practised keeping the ball close, using gentle pushes, and stopping the ball with control.

Year 3 to Year 6

Senior students have also been preparing for Cross Country, building endurance by running multiple laps of the oval and practising race starts.

Students also focused on shot put, learning proper technique and discussing the importance of safety and body positioning. They worked in small groups to practise effectively, with opportunities to apply their skills in game-based activities.

During hockey sessions, students developed their dribbling, passing, and stopping skills. Activities, such as ‘Traffic Lights,’ ‘Gate Pass’, and obstacle dribbling, helped reinforce control, accuracy, and teamwork. Emphasis was placed on safe stick use, controlled movements, and maintaining close ball control.

STEAM

In STEAM this fortnight, students across the school have been exploring science concepts through hands-on investigation and creative design.

Prep

Prep students investigated light and shadow using torches and created silhouette artworks that highlighted different shapes and outlines.

Years 1 & 2

Year 1 and Year 2 students explored the properties of materials by testing how different items bend and stretch. They then created mixed-media artworks to represent a range of textures and materials.

Years 3 & 4

Year 3 and 4 students explored seeds and plant growth, conducted experiments, and communicated their findings through diagrams and journals.

Years 5 & 6

Year 5 and 6 students continued developing their animation projects, applying advanced techniques in filming, lighting, set design, and digital editing. Some students also added sound and edited their sequences before participating in peer reviews to reflect on both the creative and scientific processes involved.
