Year 1 & 2

Around our level

In Maths lessons, students have been practising counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Students used calculators and recorded patterns they found on masking tape number lines on their desks. We are now learning about time, including the duration of events, order of events, days of the week, and months of the year.

Our students have been busy writing narrative stories about an astronaut’s adventures in space. We looked at character traits, settings, and the problems and solutions that might happen on our space travels. We are looking forward to reading the finished stories.

We have continued working on phonics through the UFLI Program, practised reading with our fluency partners, and worked in our Guided Reading Groups. We have also been listening to some fantastic stories, like 'Stinkbug' and 'My Two Blankets'. We then got the opportunity to make some great craft activities afterwards.

Over the past two weeks in History, students have been exploring how things have changed over time. In Week 7, we looked at schools in the past and present, discussing differences between classrooms long ago and today. In Week 8, students investigated how modes of transportation changed over time. Students compared vehicles from the past with those that are currently used today. Students also thought creatively about the future by designing and drawing their own future transport ideas, imagining how people might travel many years from now.

In Wellbeing, our focus has been on understanding and demonstrating our school values of Respect, Kindness, and Safety in different areas of the school. In Week 7, we discussed how to show these values in spaces, such as the oval, sanctuary, playground, and during competitive games. In Week 8, we continued this learning by focusing on the basketball courts, behind the BER, the courtyard, and the canteen. Students discussed appropriate behaviours, how to use equipment safely, and how to show respect to others and our yard duty teachers.
