Around Our Level
In Prep last/this week, we have been learning about the sounds that the letters 'p', 'f', 'i', and 'n' make during our daily UFli lessons. We have been learning the ‘heart words’ ('I', 'and', 'a', and 'said') by sight and by writing these each day on our whiteboards. These words are called ‘heart words’ because we can’t sound them out and we need to learn them by heart. We also have introduced cued articulation to support our learning of our weekly sounds.

In Maths, we have been learning the ‘Days of the Week’, beginning with Sunday through to Saturday. We have been singing these to order and sequence the days of the week using ‘Jack Hartmann’ and to the tune of the ‘Addams Family’. We have been using the vocabulary of today, tomorrow, and yesterday to sequence events and concepts, such as morning, afternoon, and night.
This week, in Maths we are focussing on yes and no questions and collecting data. The children have been learning how to respond to yes/no questions, such as ‘Do you like ice cream?' or 'Do you have blue eyes?'.

In Wellbeing, we have been learning about ‘Making New Friends’, learning how to introduce ourselves, and how to ask a new person to play at recess and lunch times. Students completed an activity called ‘Today I played with...".
In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about the past and present. Students were able to sequence events in their lifetimes, such as moving from a baby to a toddler, to a child, to a teenager and then an adult.

We have also been focussing on our school values of Safety, Kindness, and Respect, which underpin all of our rules and expectations in our classrooms, moving around the school, going to specialist classes, and in the playground.
Our Prep students have so much to celebrate since beginning school and should be very proud of the way that they have conducted themselves as they develop their independence. They are also taking home their very first books to read as part of our weekly homework, which has been very exciting for them.

Upcoming events include Our Crazy Hair Day on the 30th March, our Whole-school Cross Country on the 31st March at Lilydale Lake, and our Easter Raffle. Thank you to those families that have generously donated items towards the Easter Raffle prizes.
