On the Wednesday 5 August  the Year 2's, 3's, 5's and 6's all met up in the GP room to listen to five Collingwood AFLW players.

They were Kellyann Hogan, Lauren Butler, Georgia Knight, Ellie Brady and Sarah Rowe. When they arrived they introduced themselves and answered a few questions the year five students had prepared earlier. After they finished we got a chance to ask some questions of our own. These include: What would you eat leading up to your game? or Where are you from? It was all very interesting. At the end we played a small game where if you answered the questions about the players correctly you won a footy.

It was fantastic to learn about all the hard work the AFLW players do to perform at a high level.

MW Division AFL

Last Monday, Jells Park had 3 representative AFL teams compete in the Monash Waverley Division AFL competition. A large Level 5 and 6 female interest saw us enter 2 All Girl teams, which is the first time we have ever done this. Our boy’s team also competed after progressing through from our District Competition.

It was a cold windy day, which presented challenges of accurate kicking and marking throughout the day for all teams.

Our Girls B team were all brand new to AFL and found it tough against some other teams. The girls had a great day though and with the majority of girls in Level 5, this was a great introduction for their competition next year.

Our Girls A team had some close games throughout the day and won 3 out of 4 to progress through to the Grand Final. Unfortunately, tired legs and inaccurate kicking, saw them go down by 9 points in the Grand Final. Fantastic effort girls with many of them having never played AFL before.

The Boys team had dominating wins in their pool and semi final and found themselves against a tough team in the Grand Final. The boys persevered throughout the game but unfortunately went down by 3 goals. This was a big improvement against a team who had convincingly beaten us during our District Competition.

Well done to all students who participated on this day and thank you to the parents who came along to coach and support on the day.

Junior Hoop Time

On Wednesday 29 July, our Level 3 and 4 students put their basketball skills to the test at the Junior HoopTime competition.

We were thrilled to have seven teams represent our school, including the All Star Boys, Future Star Girls, Future Stars 1, 2 and 3, and Rookies 1 and 2.

All of our teams displayed fantastic sportsmanship, teamwork and determination throughout the day, representing our school with pride.

The All Star Boys won their first two games to earn a place in the semi-finals, where they were unfortunately defeated.

Our Future Star Girls had an outstanding day, remaining undefeated before winning their grand final. They will now progress to the next stage of the competition.

The Future Stars 1 team also had an impressive tournament, making it through to the grand final before narrowly missing out on the win.

The Future Stars 2 team won four games and just missed a place in the grand final. They also enjoyed the opportunity to play against our Future Stars 3 team in a friendly and competitive match.

The Future Stars 3 team won two games and competed with great determination all day.

Rookies 1 won three games and demonstrated excellent teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the competition.

Rookies 2 won two games, drew one and lost one, showing great improvement and resilience across the day.

Congratulations to our Future Star Girls on advancing to the next stage of the competition. We are incredibly proud of every student who participated and represented our school with such enthusiasm, teamwork and respect.

Level 1 are in the middle of some free intro Karate taster clinics delivered by Robert from SCK, our after school Karate teacher.

Karate lessons run on Thursday after school in the gym (4-5pm). Karate is great for confidence, coordination, fitness, control and discipline with a bit of fun thrown in. If you are interested or your child has enjoyed the lessons (Prep and Level 2 have also had free lessons), you can find out more about Karate classes on our Extracurricular page.

Level 6 SEPEP

6V

This term the Level 6’s, will be creating, coaching, and umpiring, “SEPEP”, SEPEP is an acronym for: Sport Education in Physical Education Program.

The Level 6’s will be playing/coaching a unique variety of sports, some of which are, Ultimate Frisbee, Tchoukball and European Handball.

We were all split into 4 different teams and 6 jobs. The jobs are CEO, Media, Marketing, Coaches, Player Agents and referees.

SEPEP is designed to make students more responsible for their own learning and one of the biggest benefits of SEPEP is that every student has a chance to contribute.

My class (6V) is doing Ultimate Frisbee. It is a very fun Non-Contact sport. Combining elements of Endzone and Netball. Overall SEPEP is a very effective way to teach sport.

It's a mix of responsibility, cooperation, leadership and fun.

6W

SEPEP stands for Sport Education in Physical Education Program.

This program is a fun and engaging way for all students to participate in physical activities. Teachers try to provide minimal support as we are learning responsibility and independence by running the entire sport ourselves.

We are all divided into 4 teams and 6 roles which include, CEO’s, Referees, Coaches, Media, Marketing and Promotions, and Player Agents. Our class 6W is participating in tchoukball, a fun no-contact sport which includes a net, a ball, and lots of teamwork.

The goals of this program are to teach children to build teamwork and leadership skills, all while giving students a way to participate in a team sport even if they’re less sporty.
