Chin Parent Dinner

On Thursday 4 June we held our Chin Parent Engagement Evening in the MECS Staffroom. These nights are designed to draw our Chin Community together with school leaders and talk through topics related to the important partnership between home, church and school. Gracy, Mum to Henry, Abigal and Esther lead us in grace to start the evening and we then enjoyed a delicious meal together of rice and curries.
Despite the very wet and cold evening outside, we had 18 parents attend along with several staff. Natalie Powell, our Primary School Counsellor was our guest speaker and Natalie gave an excellent presentation around 'Managing Devices and Screen Time'. Thanks Natalie! This is such a tricky area to navigate for all families! We appreciated your insights and strategies to do this well.
Aside from the 'content' delivered from the front at these nights, there is the unspoken 'content' around warmth, hospitality and welcome. This is the third dinner we have run to date. These nights are a natural opportunity to build connection, trust, understanding, conversation and help to open the doors to future engagement and partnership with our Chin community.
Thanks to Laura and Amy for helping with dinner preparations and to our Chin Hakha Liaison Officers, Lily and Jenny who do such an outstanding job of providing interpreting support and community connection to our families.
We look forward to our next engagement evening in Term 4.
