One Drama After Another
Updates from Years 7, 8 & 9
There’s always something dramatic going on at MECS – I mean literally dramatic – students creating, performing and watching Drama, whether it’s a substantial performance like the recent VCE Ensemble, ‘High Seas – Low Tides’ or a simple but hilarious one minute improvisation. The first ‘rotation’ of Year 7 and 8 Drama classes wound up recently and both levels presented group devised performances for their final assessment. The Year 7s adapted children’s storybooks into short plays, creating a script, rehearsing, refining and adding props and costumes, while the Year 8s created ‘Funny Fairytales’ as part of their course on comedy styles.
Then there’s the Year 9 class who presented ‘Neighbours Away!’ for an audience of Year 8s and 9s. This comedy is a satire on TV soapies like Neighbours and Home and Away, and in typical soapie style, ends with a cliffhanger. Most of the cast played more than one character which involved some lightning fast costume changes, as well as changes in voice and body language. All of these projects give students an opportunity to collaborate and engage in the creative process in a fun way.
Well done to everyone!
