Year 8 Sports Day

On Wednesday the 24th of June, our Year 8 students went to Casey Stadium for their annual Year 8 Sports Day. Students got to participate in a range of different sports, including Netball, Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball.

The day was run by our Unit 1&2 Sport and Recreation students, who took on important leadership roles including umpiring, scoring and timekeeping throughout the event.

A special thank you goes to our Darrabi boys, who assisted in coaching the teams. They did an outstanding job encouraging students to get involved, support one another, and compete with enthusiasm. Their leadership and positive attitude helped make the day a great success and fun for all.

Our Unit 3&4 students recently had the opportunity to visit the Richmond Football Club facility, where they gained valuable insight into career pathways within the sport and recreation industry.

Students attended presentations on the Richmond Institute Dual Diploma Program and explored the range of opportunities available after they graduate. They also participated in a practical strength and conditioning session run by current Richmond Institute students, providing a firsthand experience of what it is like to be part of the program.

Athlete Development Program

Term 2 has been a busy one for students in the Athlete Development Program. Throughout the term, students participated in a number of incursions and excursions, giving them the opportunity to learn from industry professionals and experience different aspects of athlete development.

Students also received their ADP student packs, which included a personalised ADP t-shirt and bag. It has been fantastic to see students proudly representing the program both within the College and out in the community.

Liam, a 23-year-old AFL defender for St Kilda, shared his unique sporting journey from Ireland to Australia. After excelling in Gaelic football, Liam was recruited by St Kilda as a Category B Rookie in 2023 and is now at the beginning of his AFL career. During the Q&A session, students gained valuable insights into life as an elite athlete, the challenges of moving overseas to pursue a sporting dream, and the dedication required to compete at the highest level.

Students also had the opportunity to take part in a practical football session led by St Kilda VFLW player Tricia Cowan. Tricia ran an exciting 30-minute skills clinic, allowing students to develop their football skills while learning from a high-level athlete.

Elite ADP Air Locker Excursion

On Monday the 22nd of June and Thursday the 25th of June, our Elite ADP students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a high-altitude training session at Air Locker Cranbourne.

Students took part in a specialised training experience designed to simulate the effects of training at altitude. The session provided valuable insight into how elite athletes use different training methods to enhance their aerobic capacity, cardiovascular fitness, and overall athletic performance.

Throughout the session, students learned about the science behind altitude training and experienced firsthand the physical demands associated with exercising in a reduced-oxygen environment. This unique opportunity allowed students to broaden their understanding of advanced training techniques commonly used by high-performance athletes across a range of sports.
