A Spoonful of Gratitude - VCE-VM Unit 3 Numeracy Students
During Weeks 3 and 4 of Term 2, the Year 12 VCE-VM Numeracy students took part in a special SAC that incorporated real-world maths skills with a little kindness (and plenty of cakes!). Students baked cakes and delivered them to teachers, Education Support staff, and members of the principal team who have made a positive impact on their school life. Alongside each cake was a heartfelt letter of gratitude — a small way of saying “thank you” to the people who have supported, encouraged, and believed in them along the way.
As part of the project, students applied important numeracy skills including measurement, mass and volume conversions, time and temperature calculations, and scaling recipes (all while trying not to burn the cakes!). More importantly, the task gave students the chance to reflect on the people who have helped them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
It was a fun and sweet moment seeing students proudly hand their cakes to their teachers, with plenty of smiles, laughs, and surprised reactions along the way. Some teachers were lucky enough to receive multiple cakes from different students — definitely one of the tastier weeks in the whole school year!
It was a meaningful experience that reminded us all that sometimes the smallest gestures — and maybe a slice of cake — can make someone’s day.
Students should be very proud of their efforts!
