From the Head of Sport
Last weekend saw the conclusion of the ISA Winter Sport competition, with seven of our teams advancing to the semi-finals and the First VII Netball team progressing directly to the finals as minor premiers.
Congratulations to all teams on their efforts throughout the season, and best of luck to those competing in the semi-finals this weekend.
With the winter season now coming to an end, please check the times and dates for Summer Sport trials in Week 6. All students must attend trials if they wish to be considered for a team.
Please ensure you are dressed in BMGS sports gear and bring any necessary safety equipment.
A number of students did not complete the Summer Sport survey. If you have not completed the survey, please email me to have your name added to the relevant trial lists.

Congratulations to Ellie Roots, who represented Blue Mountains Grammar School during the school holidays at the 2026 The Horse Den NSW State Interschools Championships.
Ellie and her pony, Whitmere In Vogue, were named Overall Intermediate Show Horse Champions — an outstanding achievement!
Ellie and Whitmere In Vogue will now represent NSW at the National Championships in September.
Congratulations, Ellie, and best of luck at Nationals!

ISA Athletics Carnival – Term 3 (15th September)
The ISA Athletics Carnival is coming up soon. If you have been selected for the BMGS Athletics Team, you will have received a permission request to attend the carnival. Make sure you check the list on the sports noticeboard for your events.
If you need to hire a singlet please do so from the Uniform Shop.
If you are unavailable for any events please see me in my office ASAP.
If you are not attending the carnival you must still complete the permission form and advise that you are unavailable.

NETBALL
ROUND 8
1sts vs Cranbrook - Loss 43-44
What a game! Our team travelled away to Cranbrook for what marked a bittersweet milestone - the final away game of the season for our hardworking Year 12s.
Knowing we went down to Cranbrook by 11 goals the last time we met, we knew this would be an ultimate test of our grit and we needed a fierce start. From the first whistle, everyone dug deep and played out of their skin.
- Quarter 1: Down by 3 goals, but the energy was high and we were right in the fight.
- Half Time: Up by 2 goals, thanks to some brilliant tactical shifts and relentless pressure.
- Full Time: An absolute nail-biter that we unfortunately dropped by just 1 goal, with the decisive shot landing in the final 22 seconds of the match.
- Controlled the pace: We dictated the speed of the game and played our style of netball.
- Contested everything: We gave them no easy possessions, driving hard to every ball.
- Created opportunities: The court was buzzing with loads of crucial turnovers and fingertips on the ball.
The scoreboard doesn't always reflect the magnitude of the performance. Our girls fought tooth and nail, and I couldn't be prouder of them. We executed our game plan brilliantly:
In a true display of sportsmanship, both teams warmly congratulated one another at the final whistle for a genuinely superb match of netball.
While the narrow loss stings, we walk away with immense confidence. We now know exactly what we need to fine-tune if we cross paths with them again in the upcoming finals series.
Well done, girls! You represented our school with incredible heart, skill, and tenacity. Let's carry this momentum straight into the finals!

Inter A vs CCGS -Loss 33-20
A good game by the Inter A’s, played with plenty of energy and determination. The team fought hard for each other across the court and continued to compete regardless of the scoreboard.
A standout was the outstanding third quarter, where the girls lifted the intensity and worked together to almost bring themselves back into the contest. Their effort, resilience, and willingness to keep pushing under pressure was fantastic to see.
It was also great to see so many of the things we have been working on at training come together during the game. The teamwork, ball movement, and defensive pressure all showed positive signs of improvement.
There is plenty to be proud of from this performance. The challenge now is to build on these strong periods and maintain that same level of intensity and consistency for the entire game. The team is heading in the right direction and has lots to look forward to.
ROUND 9
2nds vs Oxley - Win 38-34
For our first game back after the holidays, the 2nds had a home game against Oxley. The last time we were up against this team, was in round 2 of this year where we won by just 2. We came away with a win again on the weekend, where the team worked together to successfully gain the win. The scoreboard was up and down during this game, where we gained a 10 point lead at one point. But in the lead up to finals, one of our goals will be the ability to maintain these leads that the team puts so much effort into gaining. For a first game back after the break, there were lots of positives, and much like riding a bike, once we get the opportunity to get back into a rhythm these will all naturally get stronger again.
In the lead-up to finals, our goal is to continue to maintain team momentum to have a strong finish to the season with the hopes of making it to the Grand Final stage.
Inter A vs Oxley - Win 46-10 (35-10 rule)
Congratulations to our BMGS Intermediate team on a fantastic win over Oxley—our first win of the season!
The girls played an outstanding team game from start to finish. It was great to see everything we've been working on at training finally click on the court, with strong communication, teamwork and determination throughout the match.
Every player played their role and contributed to a well-deserved win.
I'm incredibly proud of the girls and the effort they've put in all season.
Juniors vs St Andrews -Win 6-5
What a fantastic game! Another win for the season and a wonderful reward for all the hard work the team has been putting in.
While it was a low-scoring match, the improvement across the court was amazing to see. The team moved the ball down the court with much greater confidence, worked hard to create space, and showed excellent determination in both attack and defence.
The defensive effort was a real highlight, with players putting pressure on the opposition and fighting for every ball. Combined with the team's energy and willingness to work together, that determination paid off and helped secure the win.
The girls should be very proud of their performance. It was another great display of teamwork, effort, and improvement, and we are excited to take this momentum into the final part of the season.
ROUND 10
1sts vs Oakhill – Win
Our final home game of the season carried extra significance as we celebrated our Year 12 players in their last school netball match on home soil, as well as our opposing Year 12s. Before the game, we welcomed both teams’ Year 12s onto the court through a guard of honour, acknowledging and congratulating all of the girls on their outstanding school sporting careers. It was a special moment of respect and recognition before we turned our focus to the task ahead.
We knew a strong start would be critical, and our aim was to establish a clean lead from the opening quarter. The girls executed this beautifully with disciplined play, strong driving through the court and excellent composure under pressure.
With the result determining whether we would finish the season as minor premiers, every quarter was fiercely contested. The team showed tremendous perseverance, repeatedly responding to challenges and maintaining belief in one another. Several players produced particularly gutsy performances despite battling illness, which made their efforts even more commendable.
It was pleasing to see the hard work from training transfer onto the court once again. One of our team traditions is for each player to share what they are going to bring to the game for the team, and this continues to strengthen the connections and trust within the group.
We led at every break, but the final minutes required smart decision-making and excellent time management. The girls remained calm, controlled possession well and closed out the match to secure the win.
The result means we finish the rounds as Minor Premiers and earn a direct place in the Grand Final - a fantastic reward for the commitment, resilience and teamwork shown throughout the season. What a fabulous way to wrap up the rounds!
Thank you, as always, to our bench for their energy and support, and to our umpires for officiating the game so professionally. Of course, thanks to all our supporters for cheering us on!
2nds vs Oakhill – Loss
For our last round of the season, the team came up against Oakhill. This team was different to the one they came up against in round 1. With the mid-season division changes, this team was one that the team went into with uncertainty. The team started strong, before Oakhill got a comfortable lead early in the game. The 2nd quarter was the team's strongest, with clear leads, strong attack and lock-down defence aiding them in scoring almost double what Oakhill did during this quarter. The team found their rhythm during the 2nd quarter, and they identified this at half-time too. Moving into semis this weekend, the team will focus training on honing in on skills learnt throughout the season.
Inter As vs St Andrew’s - Win
The BMGS Intermediate Netball team finished their season on a high with a fantastic final game against Saint Andrews. From the first whistle, the team showed great determination, teamwork and energy, with every player giving their absolute best on court.
The girls worked together brilliantly, supporting each other in attack and defence and never giving up throughout the game. Everyone played an amazing role in making the final game such a memorable one.
It was a fantastic way to finish the season, and the team should be extremely proud of everything they have achieved. Their coach is incredibly proud of the whole team and the effort, commitment and sportsmanship they have shown throughout the season.
Well done BMGS Intermediate Netball on an amazing season!
Juniors vs Cranbrook - Win
What a way to finish the regular season! With a spot in the finals on the line, the team stepped onto the court knowing this was an important game, and they rose to the challenge.
After a slightly rocky start, the girls regrouped, backed themselves, and began to play with confidence. Their passing became more purposeful, their spacing improved, and they worked the ball down the court with much greater control.
A real highlight was the connection between our shooters. Some fantastic shooter-to-shooter combinations helped create scoring opportunities and contributed to our highest score of the season. That success was only possible because of the incredible work happening all over the court. The defensive pressure, tips, and turnovers created by the team gave us plenty of opportunities to win back possession and keep feeding the circle.
The improvement this season has been immense. When we played Cranbrook in the first round, many of the girls were still learning the rules, positions, and skills of netball. To now come away with such a convincing win against the same opposition is a true reflection of their hard work, commitment, and willingness to learn throughout the season.
The girls should be extremely proud of how far they have come. It was a fantastic team performance and the perfect way to finish the regular season. Now, it's on to the semi-finals!
