Last week we announced our 2026 WABIAD winners:

Senior winners: The Page Turners (Anthea, Antonio, Patterson, Ethan, Olivia, Aisha)

Junior Winners: The Productive Procrastinators (Eloane, Elaine, Miriam, Teipo, Maeline, Sophie)

Highest Fundraisers: Insert Team Name (Isaac, William, Heath, Akseli, Thomas)

So far this year we have raised $5000 for the Kids Cancer Project but there is still time to collect more donations.

New Books

We have loads of new books hitting the shelves this week – especially new non-fiction. Come on down and be the first to borrow.

Brisbane Children’s Writers Festival

It’s a one-day festival of writing, illustrating, zines, poetry, interactive storytelling, screenwriting, competitions and more for writers aged 10-16. Our 2026 theme is:

Plot: Crossing the Board.

Young creatives will come together for a day of hands-on activities, peer support and feedback from authors and industry professionals.

Roly Sussex Short Story Prize

Write a short story up to 3000 words in length.

First prize is $1000 and an invitation to a prize ceremony at the Governor’s House

Here are some new books to come in and read for pleasure.

Kay’s Incredible Inventions by Adam Kay
