Writers' Festival and Book Week

Thank you to all our families who joined us for the launch of our Writers’ Festival on Monday 24 August. This year’s theme, ‘One World, One Goal: The Power of Sport’, was inspired by the World Cup and celebrated the many ways sport can inspire, connect and bring people together from all around the world. In line with this year’s theme, each year level explored a different writing focus:

I would like to congratulate Amelia (1BS), Olivia (2DH) and Hassan (5RR), for proudly sharing their writing with those in attendance at our Assembly launch. It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers in attendance celebrating our students’ achievements as writers. Following the Assembly, students had the opportunity to escort their families through the corridors to read and admire the incredible writing displays showcased throughout the main corridors. Thank you to our amazing teachers for conferencing with students, supporting them through every stage of the writing process and creating such incredible displays. Each year, our teachers go above and beyond to make the Writers’ Festival bigger and better - and this year was no exception… Congratulations to our students - we are incredibly proud of the hard work, dedication and courage they showed in sharing their writing with our school community. Seeing students proudly read and discuss their work with family members was a wonderful reminder of just how much they have grown as writers.

This week also marked the celebration of Book Week. This year’s theme, ‘A Symphony of Stories’, also celebrated 80 years of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards. Throughout the week, students participated in a range of engaging literacy experiences, including visits from authors Dan Thomas and Andy Griffiths, as well as our annual Book Week Dress-Up Parade on Friday 28 August. 

During Lunchtime Clubs, the English Strategic Action Team organised a variety of Book Week activities for students to enjoy. A special thank you to Bianca Strangis for her leadership in coordinating this year’s Book Week celebrations and to our wonderful Library Manager, Debra Packham, for organising the engaging author visit with Andy Griffiths. Thank you also to Fabio Cardona and Emilia Kotevska for facilitating our fantastic Book Week Dress-Up Parade – our students and parents who attended all had a fantastic time! 

Our Writers’ Festival and Book Week celebrations were a fantastic way to celebrate literacy across our school!
