Henrik from 4C Takes on the National History Challenge!

Henrik from 4C has taken his passion for History to the next level by entering the National History Challenge! Inspired by his lessons on ancient civilisations, Henrik chose to research ancient counting systems, showcasing his dedication and curiosity.

One fascinating topic Henrik explored is the Yupnana — the Inca counting board. Used by the Incas to perform mathematical operations, it highlights their advanced skills in mathematics. After completing calculations using the Yupnana, the Incas recorded their results on strings called Quipu. These quipus were primarily counting tools used to store numerical data. This ancient “operating system,” called quipus, dates back to 2600 BCE and functioned like early computers or counting machines.

The National History Challenge is a fantastic, free, research-based competition for Australian students that encourages them to become historians—exploring world history, Australia’s past, their community, or their own heritage. We are very proud of Henrik’s hard work and enthusiasm as he competes and represents our school!

Science Day

Last Tuesday, our school celebrated Science Day – a fantastic event filled with excitement, discovery, and plenty of mess! The day kicked off with the incredible Fizzics Big Science Big Fun show, dazzling students with mind-blowing demonstrations and explosive science experiments. The show inspired lots of questions and curiosity about the world around us.

Classes paired up for a range of hands-on STEM activities. Students enjoyed the Oreo Moon activity, learning about lunar phases while happily munching on delicious Oreos! Our budding astronomers also created amazing marshmallow constellations, thanks to Mrs Vassila – the creative designs brought the wonders of the night sky to the classroom.

Experiments continued with the vinegar egg activity led by Mrs Pritchard and Mrs Mulholland. Students were fascinated by how the vinegar transformed ordinary eggs, sparking lively discussions about chemical reactions. Things quickly got sticky (and slimy!) with Mrs Dong and Mrs Gurrier Jones, who guided students in making slime and oobleck – it was a hands-on exploration of states of matter that had everyone laughing and learning.

Thank you to all our teachers and helpers for making Science Day so memorable. With snacks, slime, and star-gazing, it was a celebration of science that our students won’t forget.

Kindergarten 2027

Just a reminder that it is that time of year again where we begin our orientation process for Kindergarten 2027. With Kindergarten Interviews with the Principal beginning shortly, we encourage you to submit your enrolment as soon as possible if you haven't already. These interviews provide a wonderful opportunity for families to share more about their child and ask any questions about starting school. 

To help ensure a smooth and confident transition, we also invite all prospective families to our ‘Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten?’ information evening, being held on Tuesday 8 September at 6pm. This session will cover helpful tips, expectations, and ways you can support your child’s journey on their first year of school. We look forward to welcoming existing and new families to this event!
