Music

We are beginning Term 2 with a focus on ukulele skills in music class. Grade 1 students have been introduced to the ukulele for the first time, learning how to hold it correctly, make a C chord and strum with a flat hand across the strings. So many skills are practiced here -  coordination, listening, following multi-step instructions, rhythm and fine motor skills to name a few. 

In the upper grades, we are revising our main four chords (C, Am, F and G7) and we will soon learn more chords so that we can increase our repertoire of songs to sing along with. Singing along with music while playing the ukulele prepares us well for high school music, when many students will transition to guitar. Some of our students are already learning basic guitar playing skills in Rock Band, which is run by Mr Hutchins and Mr Quilliam this Term.
