Physical Education

What a fantastic day we had at our 2026 JPII Cross Country Carnival! We were incredibly lucky with beautiful sunny weather, creating the perfect atmosphere for a wonderful day of running, cheering and house spirit.
It was fantastic to see so many parents and family members attending throughout the day to support and encourage our students. The energy around the course was amazing, with students creating dance parties, cheering loudly for one another and showing incredible sportsmanship from start to finish.
We were so proud of the outstanding participation across all year levels. Students demonstrated amazing grit, determination and resilience as they challenged themselves to complete their races and earn valuable points for their houses. The encouragement students showed one another was a real highlight of the day.
Congratulations to our overall house results:
- 1st Place: Toepfer – 467 points
- 2nd Place: Conelly – 398 points
3rd Place: Gannon – 362 points
A reminder that the STCPSSA Interschool Cross Country will take place on 29th May. Students selected for the interschool team will be notified shortly. Please note that selection will be based on students’ recorded times rather than race placings.
Thank you to all staff, students and families who helped make the day such a success. We are incredibly proud of everyone who participated and represented their houses with enthusiasm and determination.
AFLTAS/PE
AFLTAS have visited our PE lessons in Weeks 1 and 2 to promote their upcoming after-school AFL program, beginning on 14th May and running for 6 weeks at John Paul II.
There is still time for students to sign up, and best of all, the program is completely free! Families can register using the QR code provided on the flyer sent home. Additional flyers are also available from the Front Office for anyone who may need another copy.
This term in PE, students across the school are focusing on Invasion Games, where they are developing important skills such as teamwork, finding space, attacking and defending, and scoring goals in game situations. Students have been enjoying a wide variety of fun and active games while learning the fundamentals of working effectively as part of a team.
Later this term, AFL Tasmania will return during PE lessons to continue teaching students AFL fundamentals through engaging activities and games. These sessions will be a fantastic lead-in for our Grade 5/6 students as they prepare for an exciting Term 3, when AFL and Netball commence as part of 5/6 sport.
