Grade 6

Literacy

The Grade 6’s have started term 4 reading Jessica Townsend’s novel ‘Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow’. We are enjoying exploring the fantastical world of Nevermoor and following Morrigan as she tries to cheat death. 

Using the themes from our mentor text, students have begun planning and writing their very own fantasy narratives. We have looked at how to make their stories more engaging for the reader and how to use imaginary elements to make a fantastical realm believable. 

Numeracy

Students have just wrapped up statistical investigations. We have been exploring whether data falls under the title of nominal, ordinal, discrete or continuous, as well as deciding what the best collection method would be. 

We have now gone back to fractions, decimals and percentages. Students have been investigating how discounts work, whether an item is 10%, 25% or 50% off.

Integrated

In term 4 we are focusing on Business and Economics. The Grade 6’s have looked into what the difference between wants and needs are and started exploring bartering and trading systems.
