Grade 2

Dear Families,
As we head towards the middle of the term, our students have been showing wonderful focus and enthusiasm in all areas of their learning.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been learning all about data. Students have enjoyed collecting information, organising it into tally marks and tables, and creating column graphs to show their results. We’ve also been interpreting data by answering questions about what we notice — such as which has the most, the least, and how many more. It’s been great to see everyone using their reasoning skills to explain their thinking.
Literacy
In Literacy, we’ve been taking time to review and consolidate the skills we’ve learned throughout the year. Students have been practising their reading comprehension, revising spelling patterns, and applying their grammar and punctuation knowledge in different writing tasks. It’s been wonderful to see how much progress everyone has made since the start of the year!
Writing
In Writing, we are revisiting narrative writing. Students are planning and creating their own imaginative stories using the familiar structure of beginning, middle, and end. We’ve been focusing on strong character descriptions, interesting settings, and exciting problems and solutions. The creativity and effort in their stories have been fantastic to see.
Integrated
As part of our Integrated learning, we have been exploring First Nations symbols and their meanings. Students have learned how these symbols are used to share stories, represent places, and record important cultural information. We have been practising recognising and drawing some of these symbols and discussing their importance in Aboriginal art and storytelling.
Looking Ahead
As we approach the end of the year, we’re proud of how much our Year 2 students have grown - not only in their learning but also in their confidence, independence, and teamwork.
Thank you for your continued support at home.
Warm regards,
The Year 2 Team
