Novel Studies Update

This term, our Years 3–6 students have been immersed in their Novel Studies, exploring engaging stories that inspire curiosity and build a love of reading.

Each year level is reading a shared class novel:

  • Year 3: The One and Only Ivan
  • Year 4: The Wild Robot
  • Year 5: The Last Bear
  • Year 6: Nevermoor

These novels form the foundation of our Literacy Block, where reading and writing are thoughtfully connected. Students are developing their comprehension and writing skills by responding to the themes, characters, and ideas within their class texts.

Throughout the week, three days are dedicated to strengthening core writing skills such as sentence structure, punctuation, and paragraphing, while two days focus on genre-based writing inspired by their reading. Students are also building their vocabulary and expanding their knowledge as they encounter new words, concepts, and perspectives through each story.

Having a novel in every student’s hands has made a remarkable difference, students are more engaged, motivated, and confident as readers. This has been a wonderful investment in student growth, fostering not only strong literacy skills but also a genuine love of learning.

By combining the Novel Study lessons with explicit instruction in reading, writing, and vocabulary, we are helping students grow into confident communicators and lifelong readers and writers.

Prep Transition

Our Prep Transition Program is well underway, and it has been wonderful to meet all the children who have attended the first two sessions. The excitement and enthusiasm from our future Preps have been fantastic to see!

During the sessions, students have had the opportunity to explore the classroom environment, meet our current prep teachers, and take part in fun learning activities designed to help them feel confident and comfortable at school. These sessions are an important step in ensuring a smooth and positive start to their first year of school.

We look forward to welcoming our new students and families at the upcoming transition sessions and continuing to build strong connections as we prepare for the 2026 school year.

Maintaining High Expectations and Positive Behaviour

As we move into the final weeks of the school year, it’s important that we continue to uphold the high standards that define our school community. The end of the year brings excitement and anticipation, but it also requires us to remain focused, respectful, and connected.

At this stage of the year, we encourage all students to continue demonstrating our Proud, Respect, Open-minded, United, and Daring in all aspects of school life. These values guide the way we learn and interact with one another, ensuring our school remains a positive and supportive environment for everyone.

We will continue to respond to inappropriate behaviours consistently and fairly, just as we have throughout the year. Clear expectations and consistent responses help keep our school a place where every student feels safe, respected, and ready to learn.

As we head into a busy time of year filled with excursions, celebrations, and end-of-year events, it’s vital that our students represent our school with pride. Modelling our PROUD values beyond the school gates helps build trust and strengthen the positive reputation of our community.

Warm regards,
